4 Must Do’s When Panic Attacks

Home » Blog » Videos » 4 Must Do’s When Panic Attacks

I’d like to share four actions that will absolutely stop panic right away.

But first, understand the reason panic happens is because the mind is trapped in either the past, the memory of how bad panic attacks felt in the past, or the future, how much worse the panic is going to be this time around.

To get out of this fearful mindset, the brain has to get back into this present moment where there really isn’t any reason to panic.

My name is Claire Maisonneuve.

As the director of the Alpine Counselling Clinic, I’ve been teaching these strategies to clients for over 30 years and they work.

Here’s what to do:

  1. Look around the room or the space around you and name out loud the objects and the colors that you can see. For example, green plant, white floor, red t-shirt, blue glass, name at least 10 things.
  2. Activate the sense of touch by rubbing or touching something with your hands. The couch, a wool sweater, a leather purse.
  3. Talk to someone and look at them in the eye. Make a connection with people.
  4. Drink or eat something and really focus on the taste and texture.

In other words, get into what’s happening right now in this moment and this will interrupt the panic created by the mind that is stuck in the past or the future.

That’s all it is, a pattern of fearful thinking that the mind is locked into.

One of the best solutions we use in our clinic to help the mind out of these terrifying episodes is a brain technology called Direct Neurofeedback.

Direct Neurofeedback is an FDA-approved brain technology that is safe, painless and acts fast.

It helps unblock the pathways that are stuck or locked because of overwhelming fear and is able to calm the brain and shut off those fearful thoughts.

It literally resets and reboots the brain painlessly and quickly.

20 sessions of Direct Neurofeedback brought back youthful energy, a more relaxed body, cleared tons of stuck emotions, vivified my senses (especially smell), and opened up never before felt sensations in my gut, like that area had been numbed out my whole life, which resulted in a whole bunch of new emotional growth. All the results are still with me months later and feels permanent. The staff are all proficient and nice and the process of making appointments is convenient and smooth. This is a great office and great healing process.

I like to think that this place saved my brain. I’ve struggled my whole life with a pretty severe anxiety disorder, featuring some fantastic panic attacks… got so bad that at one point it was happening multiple times a day. After several sessions I could start to feel a change and that gave me hope… years later, my anxiety is SO much better and panic attacks are slim to none. Couldn’t have done it without Claire, Laura and the rest of the team at Alpine! Highly recommend!!
